Scams and scammers are nothing new. But the internet and social media have taken scamming to a new level in the twenty-first century.
Scammers are always looking to change their modus operandi (MO) to stay ahead of law abiding citizens who just want to ward them off.
To their credit, the big banks have been stepping up more and more in the fight against scams and scammers.
One of the big four, Westpac, is taking part in a workshop next week to help people in Campbelltown know how to fight back against scams.
Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren is encouraging local residents to attend the free Scams Awareness Workshop which is aimed at helping the community stay safe from increasingly sophisticated scams.
The workshop, delivered by Mr Warren in partnership with Westpac and Campbelltown City Council, will give those who attend the practical tools needed to recognise, avoid, and respond to scam activity.
Mr Warren said the session will provide valuable insights for people of all ages.
“Scammers are constantly finding new ways to target members of our community, particularly some of our most vulnerable, and staying informed is one of the best ways to protect yourself,” Mr Warren said.
“This workshop will give our residents the knowledge and confidence to spot the warning signs before it’s too late.”
The Campbelltown Westpac team will present on common scam types, share practical tips to safeguard personal information, and outline what a legitimate bank will never ask customers to do – helping attendees understand exactly what to look out for.
