It’s still the middle of summer, and a rugby ball hasn’t been kicked in anger for months, but as far as the Campbelltown Harlequins are concerned it’s the early bird that gets the worm.
The club have this week signaled a bold intent to be bigger and better than ever in the coming season.
Harlequins say they will blend elite professional standards with a massive expansion of their junior ranks in 2026.
The new season has launched with a high-performance spark as club legend Fotu Auelua brought his renowned Core Collision Skills (CCS) program to the Quinnies home, Campbelltown Showground.
The elite clinic attracted high-profile talent from across Australia and New Zealand, including Wallaby Nick Champion de Crespigny, who joined local players to sharpen his skills under Auelua’s guidance.
The professional influence also trickledg down to the grassroots level.
More than 100 junior players flocked to the Showground to participate in the CCS program, proving that the appetite for rugby in the region is stronger than ever.
The Harlequins aren’t just looking to participate this year, – they are looking to dominate, says the club in a media statement issued yesterday.
“Following a stellar 2025 season where the first grade side secured the Illawarra Rugby Minor Premiership, the club is preparing to field three senior men’s grades,’’ the club said.
Growth isn’t limited to the men’s game: the Harlequins have confirmed that women’s rugby will continue to receive primary focus as the team prepares for another competitive campaign in the Chikarovski Cup in 2026.
The club will boost the junior pathway, with comprehensive programs for boys and girls from Under 7s through to Under 18s.
The next generation is also part of the strategy at Campbelltown Showground, with the introduction of Mini and Tiny Tots rugby to ensure children of all ages can find a home at the historic Campbelltown club formed in 1972.
“With the momentum of elite clinics and premiership trophies behind them, the Harlequins are inviting new and returning players to be part of the family,’’ says the club in the media statement.
Senior training officially commences on Tuesday, January 20, at 6.30pm at the Campbelltown Showground and everyone’s welcome.
Whether you are an aspiring professional or picking up a ball for the first time, the Harlequins are ready to welcome you.
