Wests Tigers boss Shane Richardson has reaffirmed the club’s long term commitment to playing NRL matches at Campbelltown.

Speaking at this morning’s official opening of a new Wests Tigers centre of rugby league in the Campbelltown campus of Western Sydney University, Mr Richardson hailed the event as “a great day for Campbelltown and South Western Sydney.

“But more importantly, it’s a fantastic day for Wests Tigers and rugby league in general,’’ he said.

Mr Richardson revealed that all the signs were positive for Wests Tigers and its commitment to the region.

“We now have a lot more sponsors from out here, the biggest being Wests Group Macarthur – what they do here at the grassroots levels is colossal, they put in about three quarter of a million dollars a year into it, which is unheard of throughout Sydney,’’ he said.

“We really appreciate their support, which is an outstanding effort.

“Today is another statement about our commitment to South Western Sydney.

“We spoke about it two years ago and have delivered, spending over $1m out here last year on our empower program, which delivers domestic violence education to schools.

“In the next 12 months we’ll be in 60 high schools, Eagle Vale Sports High is one of them – we have a rugby league engagement there, which is even better.

“Finally, today is a statement from Wests Tigers that we’re committed, and embedded in this area,’’ Mr Richardson said.

“There will be four NRL games here in 2026, including the premiers Broncos playing at Campbelltown.

“Long term the stadium redevelopment will hopefully be finished by the end of 2028.’’

Local MP Greg Warren, a big supporter of having Wests Tigers embedded into our local community, also spoke this morning.

“Thanks for your commitment to Campbelltown, the heartland of rugby league,’’ he said, addressing his remarks to Mr Richardson and other Wests Tigers people attending the opening of the club centre.

“Today is another display of how committed Wests Tigers are to our community, South Western Sydney and Campbelltown, a rugby league heartland,’’ Mr Warren said.

“We are a family here in this region, and rugby league is a community and a family within that community.’’

The club had opened its first ever rugby league centre and office in Blaxland Road two years ago.

However those premises had recently became unavailable, and the search for a new centre led to a collaboration with the university, which culminated with this morning’s official opening.
