Warren Morrison is running for election to the Club Menangle board of directors because it’s the “right time in life now’’.
“It’s hard when you own a business, and you run a charity, and you’re a councillor and try to do your personal life,’’ he tells the South West Voice when we sit down to talk about his second bid to get on the board at Club Menangle.
“I was taught you have five lives, you’ve got play with them and make sure you get them right,’’ he explains.
“So family comes first, business second, what you do with the community comes third or you don’t have the first two, and the other two are personal.
“And that’s my motto as well,’’ says the man most of us know either through his former business, The Sleeping Giant in Blaxland Road, his chairmanship of the charity 24 Hour Fight Against Cancer Macarthur or as Campbelltown councillor for almost 10 years.
Warren Morrison says he had set his eyes on becoming a director of one of the clubs in Macarthur as part of a long term plan.
And he’s going for Club Menangle simply because it has been a part of his life for many years.
“I’ve been part of harness racing for 40 years,’’ he says.
“Growing up my neighbours in Fairfield had horses, with my older brother Stephen it’s all about racing non stop.
“So over the years I went to the harness racing meetings with my brother at Harold Park, Fairfield, Bankstown.
“Club Menagle, it’s the biggest and best in Australasia, and well known world wide.’’
Mr Morrison said that if elected he would bring his experience as a councillor and a businessman to the board of directors.
“I know a lot of different people, a lot of drawcards that may be utilised there at various events held at Club Menangle,’’ he says.
“I’ve always been part of all of the events, such as the big race meetings, the breakfasts such as the one for Beersheba every year, the Beersheba Walk.
“I’ve had 10 election parties out there.
“It’s already part of my life, I have the time now and that’s why I am running.’’
