An historically important structure across Stonequarry Creek in Picton, Victoria Bridge is a 19th century example of engineering built in an era when the horse and cart was the prime source of transport.
As modern day motorists accessing Victoria Bridge, mainly as a short cut to avoid the traffic jams on the main street of Picton, know, bi-directional traffic and larger vehicles were not a necessary consideration when the bridge was built all those years ago.
Keeping the bridge viable in the 21st century means there are necessary size and weight restrictions to keep both motorists and the structure itself safe.
As such, size and weight signs on the bridge approaches have now become clearer to improve prior warning for vehicles wishing to cross.
Recently better size and load restriction signage was installed near the approaches of the historic bridge to inform motorists attempting to cross the structure.
Installed on the northern and southern approaches to Prince Street on Menangle Street, the improved signage specifically identify Prince Street as having restrictions.
Community feedback provided to Transport for NSW initiated the improved signage.
