Rising Australian music star Becca Hatch may be just 23 years old, but she’s got her priorities right.

Including never forgetting where she came from before the show business accolades started landing.

Which is precisely why hot off the back of her recent ARIA nomination for Best Breakthrough Talent, Hatch is returning to where it all began – Campbelltown – for a special showcase of her debut EP release, Mayday.

Tomorrow night (Thursday, October 24) from 7m at the Campbelltown Arts Centre, accompanied by her DJ, Nicole Hamblin-Walker, Ms Hatch will perform her new EP in full along with some of her earlier releases.

Which, come to think of it, include 2560, on ode to the place where she was born and raised – released four years ago.

Her career trajectory has taken her to Melbourne, where she was when we spoke to her on the phone about her return home to Campbelltown – and how she was handling the highs and lows of the music industry.

Tomorrow night’s gig – which is free, by the way – will be the first time she has performed in Campbelltown, and as she tells the South West Voice, she can’t wait.

“I am really excited to do a show for the community I grew up; this is really important to me, because it’s about giving back,’’ Hatch said.

I asked her if she was also looking forward to performing in front of family and friends she made while growing up in Campbelltown, where she attended East Campbelltown Primary School and Campbelltown Performing Arts High School.

“Yep, that will be the best part, having family and old friends come along to the show, I think that will be great,’’ she says.

Hatch hadn’t seriously thought about a career as a musician until she won the Triple J Unearthed High’s Indigenous Initiative in 2017.

“So, since I was 16, maybe Year 12, when I got into it, and it’s been a crazy journey,’’ she says.

“There’s some people in the industry with their own agendas, but also a lot of awesome creatives who want to support young performers.’’

The Becca Hatch concert is free, but those who wish to attend are asked to register at https://events.humanitix.com/becca-hatch-mayday-ep-live-set
