A man will appear in court today charged by Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives following an investigation into the theft of $1 million worth of silver bullion from a truck in 2021.
Police say the truck was travelling between Maldon, located at the outskirts of Picton, to Melbourne in Victoria carrying a consignment of 960kg of silver bullion.
Upon arrival in Melbourne, the theft was discovered and officers from Camden Police Area Command were notified.
The consignment – 192 individual 5kg bars of silver bullion – was estimated to be worth $1,015,000 in 2021 and over $1.4 million today.
Following initial investigations by local police, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Caimon.
Following extensive investigations, including multiple appeals for information, a 40-year-old man was arrested at a Wee Jasper property about 8.45am yesterday (pictured above).
He was taken to Yass Police Station and strike force detectives executed search warrants at Bargo and Tahmoor properties, seizing electronic devices and business records for forensic examination.
The man has since been charged with larceny and armed with intent to commit indictable offence. He has been refused bail to appear before Goulburn Local Court today.
The stolen silver has not been recovered, and detectives are still appealing for any information that may lead to its recovery.
