The Right Start Foundation will host its next family fun day on Sunday, April 14.
A small not-for-profit charity based in Macarthur, the Right Start Foundation raises awareness about Down Syndrome.
The foundation, established in 2010, also supports families touched by Down Syndrome by hosting regular social events that are run in a relaxed, fun and safe environment.
Right Start Foundation is run by a board of volunteers who are mostly parents with children who have Down Syndrome.
According to the website, in 2009, The Right Start was established as a support group for parents of children with Down Syndrome.
For Glenda Graban, the founder and voice of The Right Start in the Wollondilly and Macarthur region, the experience of giving birth to a child with Down syndrome shaped her call to action with other local mothers.
Ms Graban and her team of dedicated individuals and families discovered there was a gap in support for families with children with Down syndrome and focused their efforts in that area.
The foundation was established in 2011 with the aim of helping change the lives of families of children with Down Syndrome in the Wollondilly-Macarthur region.
The introduction of the NDIS around 2018 changed the focus of The Right Start Foundation more towards getting that support and knowledge from other parents into those newer ones who needed it.
Since 2019, Right Start Foundation has been partnering with the Campbelltown based Shine Shed located in Mount Erin Road, a sensory play space for anyone with conditions like autism and Down Syndrome.
The monthly family fun days are free and the next one is scheduled for Sunday, April 14, 10.30am-12.30pm.
Bookings to go to the family fun day are exclusive to DS families, who can reach out via the Facebook page or therightstartfoundation@gmail.com
