A newly completed apartment complex in the Campbelltown town centre is seen as the way of the future for social and affordable housing in Sydney and NSW.
NSW Premier Chris Minns joined Campbelltown Mayor George Greiss and local MP Greg Warren last Friday on site in Warby Street to talk to some of the residents who have already moved in.
The brand new six story complex has 35 two-bedroom, four three-bedroom and two-one-bedroom units.
It will provide 94 residents, ranging from young families to people at risk of homelessness, a safe and secure place to call home.
With a State Government investment of $22 million, the building was purchased off the plan and will be managed by Homes NSW.
“I applaud the NSW Government for exploring new pathways to deliver social housing to those in need,’’ Mr Warren said.
“Housing is one of the most common issues that is raised with me, and I am glad that the NSW Government has committed to supporting the delivery of social housing in Campbelltown and NSW more broadly.”
The Warby Street apartment block is one of several across the Sydney metropolitan area as the NSW Government attempts to bolster housing security for those in need.
Purchasing this property shovel ready, directly off the plan meant construction was able to be expedited, delivering quality social housing close to transport services and retail amenities.
This is one of the many ways the NSW Government says it’s working to build the state’s social housing portfolio to address the increased demand for social and affordable housing.
With more than 55,000 people on the waitlist for social housing, and close to 12,000 on the list in South Western Sydney alone, the NSW Government says it will continue to explore every option to expedite the delivery of more homes to help confront the housing crisis.
