Part of Queen Street, the main thoroughfare in the Campbelltown town centre, became a fast flowing stream this morning when a large water main ruptured.
Large quantities of water washed down the town’s main street forcing motorists in both directions to slow down.
The water main in question, located in the vicinity of the Queen Street Officeworks store, burst around 8am.
As well as turning Queen Street into a torrent of water, it causes pressures loss to the businesses located in and around that part of the town centre, including the biggest of them all, Campbelltown City Council.
“We’ve received a number of reports from customers experiencing issues with the water supply,’’ Sydney Water posted on its website later.
“Our crews are responding to a fault that is affecting water supply to customers in the area.
“We will identify the issue and restore the supply as quickly as we can,’’ Sydney Water posted.
It took two hours before pressure was returned to the main and the water supply restored.
Indeed it was in the nick of time, because Campbelltown City Council was preparing to shut down their building – which had lost its water supply – when they were informed it had been restored around 10am.
Sydney Water is continuing to do repair works to the Queen Street main and these are expected to take place all of today at least.
