A man charged with a string of offences following a shooting in the Wollondilly Shire over a tenancy dispute was refused bail when he appeared in Picton Local Court today.

The alleged incident took place around 7.30pm last night (Wednesday, August 23).

Police allege a 45-year-old man went to a house located in Hunter Street, Tahmoor, to speak to the occupant regarding a tenancy dispute.

An argument ensued, and it is alleged a shot was fired from inside the home before the visitor to the house was threatened with a firearm.

Police were notified and officers from Camden Police Area Command rushed to the location, where they were assisted by members of the Public Order Riot Squad

The occupant of the house, a 39-year-old man, surrendered to police without incident and he was arrested and taken to Narellan Police Station.

A crime scene was established at the house, with police seizing two sawn off .22 calibre rifles and an amount of ammunition.

It will be alleged that these items were not secured in an approved storage safe.

The man was charged with five offences including:

  • fire firearm in a manner likely to injure persons or property;
  • two counts of possessing a shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority;
  • possessing ammunition without holding a licence, permit or authority;
  • not keep firearm safely – not pistol or prohibited firearm.

He was refused bail to appear at Picton Local Court today where he was remanded in custody to reappear at the same court on September 13.
