A second person has died in a road crash in the Macarthur region in 24 hours. The 37 year old man died when a hatchback and a utility collided south of Campbelltown on Saturday night.
Twenty four hours earlier a woman who was a passenger in a car died when that vehicle crashed into a parked truck at Ingleburn. The driver has been charged.
In the second fatal incident, emergency services were called to Menangle Road, Douglas Park, just before 9pm last night after a northbound Subaru Impreza and a southbound Isuzu D-Max, which was towing a horse float, collided.
Police have been told a passing motorist attempted to assist the driver trapped in the hatchback; however, the vehicle caught fire and the driver died at the scene. The man is yet to be formally identified.
Two men in the ute, the 37-year-old driver and his 57-year-old passenger, were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
The men – both believed to be from country town Forbes – have now been released from hospital.
The horse was not injured and is being cared for locally.
Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command and Macarthur Traffic and Highway Patrol established a crime scene, with Menangle Road closed between 9pm and 4am while the scene was examined, and the wreckage removed.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted in coming days to confirm identity of the deceased driver and establish cause of death.

Meanwhile the man driving the car in which a woman passenger died at Ingleburn on Friday night was granted bail when he appeared in court today.
The 24-year-old man from Yennora sustained minor injuries and was taken under police guard to Liverpool Hospital for treatment and mandatory testing.
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving and drive while licence application was refused.
