Camden’s popular Miss Llewella Davies Pioneer Walkway has reopened following the damaging floods of last year.
The walkway at Camden Town Farm was closed after the first flood of 2022 on March 3.
Repair work was then delayed by a further three floods in March, April and July, which caused even more destruction at the site and other parts of Camden.
Since then, Camden Council has worked to repair and replace parts of the pathway surface, reconstruct fences, remove flood debris and replace lost and damaged signage.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney, pictured above checking it out for herself, said she was pleased to see residents enjoying the walkway again.
“The Miss Llewella Davies Pioneer Walkway is one of the Camden area’s favourite spots to enjoy some fresh air and exercise,” she said.
“That’s why we are committed to bring the walkway back to being safe and usable again for our community.
“Camden Town Farm was smashed with four floods, with parts of the walkway five metres underwater for days on end, causing serious damage,’’ Mayor Cagney said.
“We appreciate the community’s patience as we worked through these unexpected difficulties.”
The 2.4-kilometre track features the Nepean River Link, the Matahill Creek Loop and the Elizabeth Street Farm Link.
Anyone planning to visit the Miss Llewella Davies Pioneer Walkway is advised that because the track goes through an operational farm, it is dog-free.
