Where’s the details for 19,000 new homes in Macarthur?

NSW Labor have called on the NSW Liberals to reveal the fine print regarding plans to establish 19,000 new homes in Appin and Gilead, in Campbelltown’s south.

The plan also included koala corridors to help protect and preserve Campbelltown’s precious koala colony.

Shadow minister for Western Sydney and Campbelltown MP, Greg Warren (pictured above on Appin Road), said ultimately the devil would be in the detail.

“Affordable housing, a new school and the preservation of koala corridors all sound like wonderful ideas, but we need to see the detail and how the government will deliver the vital services and infrastructure to complement the thousands of new families that will call our region home,” Mr Warren said.

“How many of those homes will be affordable, where will those koala corridors be located, what will be the capacity of the school be and when will the school actually be built?

“The government’s announcement only scratched the surface,’’ he said.

“The announcement didn’t mention what the government would do to upgrade the deadly Appin Road or ease pressure on Campbelltown Hospital’s under-staffed and under-resourced emergency department.

“Residents in Gregory Hills – in the neighbouring electorate of Camden – were promised a new primary school years ago but that still hasn’t opened.

“Gladys Berejiklian, in her capacity as Transport Minister, promised to build 450 additional commuter car parking spaces at Campbelltown train station prior to the 2015 election – but that also never happened.

“This government has shown time and time again that it can’t be trusted to keep its word in West and South Western Sydney, so why should we believe them now?”

  1. Exactly. Where are the koala corridors, how wide will they be and how will they connect to safe road crossings? Stage 1 Gilead will have pump in water and pump out sewage, is bush fire prone and land only costing average $600,000 – how is that affordable

  2. Pofits and greed will always win because our elected representatives are more worried about their survival than our endangered wildlife!

  3. We are over promises for Appin Road, it’s tiresome. More to development than one road.
Campbelltown council & state gov allowed Lendlease to change the VPA Appin Road agreement.
This is beyond belief. Who has got the guts to stand up.

  4. How will the Campbelltown koalas who are already under severe threat of local extinction, cope with a further 19000 houses in the middle of their habitat? The only way to save koalas is to have their habitat

If we can’t save the cutest animal in the world – what will happen to the rest?

Koalas truly are the most amazing and beautifully unique animal.

It is critical that NO MORE TREES are CUT DOWN and that wildlife corridors and wildlife underoasses are iIMMEDIATELY put in place on Appin Rd

  5. I agree with Mr Warren on what the government is up to here. Only a few months to the state election now so I’m looking forward to him answering these same questions on behalf of his Party. As well as the Upper Georges River National Park – when? Policy on Stage 2 of Gilead? Corridors for koalas on Appin Road – where and when?

  6. Seriously, where is the infrastructure for these developments, especially when calls for Appin Road to be fixed have gone unheeded for decades? The old saying,’ don’t put the cart before the horse’ comes to mind.
