Residents looking to improve their recycling options and habits will soon benefit from the six month trial of RecycleSmart, a brand new, on-demand recycling initiative in Campbelltown.

Set to commence this month, the trial will allow locals to use the RecycleSmart App or website to book a Power Pickup and collect up to two bags per month of recycling directly from their address.

A verified driver will then be dispatched to collect and deliver it to the nearest allocated drop-off point, such as the Campbelltown community recycling centre.

“This initiative aims to help residents ensure their excess recycling ends up in the right place so that it can be recycled properly,” says Campbelltown Mayor George Greiss.

“Our community strategic plan outlines a commitment to improving sustainable practices across Campbelltown and we know that residents are passionate about caring for the environment,” Cr Greiss said.

“RecycleSmart is one way of creating opportunities for people to access services that encourage these practices,” he said.

Residents will be able to allocate a variety of items to be collected by the service, including soft plastics, small e-waste items, old clothes (excluding underwear and socks) and misfit items ranging from coffee capsules and batteries to books and DVDs.

Anyone wanting to have additional bags picked up each month can book an extra service for $5 per bag, with a minimum of two bags per pickup.

Each bag must be the size of a standard reusable shopping bag.

RecycleSmart has already been a success among other Macarthur strategic waste alliance councils, with significant uptake from the community in other council areas. Find out more at recyclesmart.com.au.
