A 17 year old teenager has been charged after a pursuit through Liverpool ended in a crash overnight.

Just before midnight, officers from Liverpool Police Area Command attempted to stop a black VW Amarok wagon at Cowpasture Road, Horningsea Park after it was identified as being a stolen vehicle.

When the VW failed to stop a pursuit was initiated.

At the intersection of Kurrajong Road and Beech Road, Prestons, the VW crashed into a silver Peugeot.

The three occupants of the VW fled the scene and the driver, a 17-year-old male, was arrested after a short foot pursuit. He was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.

The 63-year-old female driver of the Peugeot was trapped in the vehicle for about 30 minutes until released by Fire and Rescue NSW

She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries and taken to Liverpool Hospital as a precaution.

It was later established that the VW was stolen from Clontarf sometime between 5pm Sunday 26 June 2022 and 7am Monday 27 June 2022.

The teen was later taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, never licensed person, drive vehicle on road and drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.

He was refused bail to appear in a children’s court later today (Monday 4 July).

Investigations are continuing into the identity of the other occupants of the VW who fled the scene.

As inquiries continue, anyone who may have witnessed, or has dashcam/mobile phone footage, of the incident are urged to contact Liverpool Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
