Wollondilly Library is set for a major upgrade. Member for Wollondilly, Nathaniel Smith, has announced that council will receive $403,092 towards the work.
The money comes from the 2021/22 public library infrastructure grant program.
Wollondilly mayor Matt Gould welcomed the funding.
“We have been consistently told that our library users need more spaces for quiet study or reading within the library building,’’ he said.
“These funds will help us to upgrade the library, incorporating a great new community lounge space, providing places to read quietly or meet with others.
“The new facilities will allow for room to grow for our future cultural precinct library, and will become a permanent community space when the precinct is complete.”
In other Shire news, as part of the highly anticipated return of the Illuminate Wollondilly Festival of Art & Light this May, a long table dinner will be held in the Picton Botanic Gardens.
The Gardens will come to life with lights and a spectacular illuminated sculpture and lantern display on Friday, May 20, with the long table dinner taking centre stage under the Avenue of Trees.
Those attending will be treated to a four-course dinner served by The Chef and I, accompanied by beverages and live entertainment by singer Karleigh Rose.
Karleigh Rose has been professionally performing at weddings and events for over 10 years, and will present a selection of easy listening music to complement the beautiful surroundings.
Mayor Gould said he was looking forward to seeing people take part this special evening as part of the three day festival.
“After almost three years of Covid cancellations we can finally bring the Illuminate festival back, bigger and better than ever,” he said.
“This is an opportunity to gather some of your favourite people together and be part of this unique experience at in the Picton Botanic Gardens.”
