People in need of housing have received the keys to their new homes in Minto as part of a new 220-unit development.
Minto Gardens includes a mix of social and affordable housing and retirement living, and is close to transport, shops and services.
Located in Sark Grove, Minto Gardens will provide a safe place to call home for some of the community’s most vulnerable people.
Residents will also be able to enjoy a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, including a community hub with lounge, library and internet access, a café, covered barbecue areas, an off-leash dog area and a seniors’ gym park.
“These homes are part of a strong pipeline of new housing being delivered through the NSW Government’s $1.1 billion social and affordable housing fund,” says Alister Henskens, the NSW minister for families, communities and disability services.
“This program is about more than just bricks and mortar, it’s about providing tailored services that help empower people to improve their health and general wellbeing, and transform their lives.”
All dwellings meet the silver Liveable Housing Australia design standard.
The development was a collaboration between the state government and Anglicare.
A big focus of the project was creating a supportive environment, with the community hub featuring office space for Anglicare staff and private rooms for appointments with visiting practitioners.
“The number of people in Minto who are in need of affordable rental accommodation options has increased substantially over the last decade,” says Anglicare Sydney chief operating officer Bill Farrand.
“This project seeks to meet those needs by providing safe, secure and affordable housing for those who need it most, in a safe and welcoming community.”
The Social and Affordable Housing Fund is a key initiative of Future Directions for Social Housing in NSW, and is on track to deliver 3,485 homes across the State.
