Toddler critical after being pulled from backyard pool unconscious

A baby boy remains in a critical condition after being pulled from a backyard pool near Campbelltown last night.

Police say that around 7.30pm (Wednesday, October 20), they and other services responded to calls reporting an emergency situation at a house in Lockheed Street, Raby.

Upon arrival, officers attached to Campbelltown Police Area Command found a 20-month-old baby boy who had been pulled from a backyard pool, unconscious and unresponsive.

The toddler was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition this morning.

A crime scene has been established. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue; however, the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

In a separate incident, a local police officer has been charged over alleged domestic violence-related offences and suspended from his duties.

After receiving reports a 30-year-old woman had been assaulted by a man known to her, officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command launched an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 32-year-old senior constable attached to the South West Metropolitan Region was arrested and charged with 12 offences.

They included destroying or damaging property, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault, two counts of intentionally choking another person without consent, three counts of stalk or intimidate and three counts of contravening an AVO (Apprehended Violence Order).

The accused officer, who was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court yesterday, is currently suspended without pay.
