For the second year in a row, the biggest festival in the outer South Western Sydney region will be mainly a digital event.

Campbelltown Council is promising a bigger and better Festival of Fisher’s Ghost in 2022, but in the meantime the 2021 event will be a mix of online and small events  from Friday, November 5 to Sunday, November.

Under normal circumstances, the popular festival, which has been running for more that 60 years, is a two week event that brings the buzz to town.

By November 5, NSW will be getting close to 85 percent fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and most of our freedoms will return. But it looks like there wasn’t enough time for Campbelltown Council to organise live events such as the parade, carnival and music concerts.

Council has announced that two big events, Fisher’s Kids and the Fisher’s Ghost art award at Campbelltown Arts Centre will be open for residents to attend.

It says residents will also be able to participate in a number of online festival events.

“While it’s a shame that we can’t all get out and celebrate the Festival of Fisher’s Ghost together, we still have a great line up of events planned for people of all ages and interests,” says the mayor of Campbelltown, George Brticevic.

Bring it back: The festival parade in 2018 and (top) the carnival at Bradbury Park a year earlier.

“Planning is already under way to ensure we can bring back a fresh Festival of Fisher’s Ghost next year with some great new ideas that complement the festival’s heritage,” he said.

This year though history buffs can follow the footsteps of Fred Fisher with a free self-guided audio tour using the app Cya on the Road, available from the App Store or Google Play Store.

On Friday, November 5, residents can join in on the fun of online DanceFit classes by Shane’s Crew, including an inclusive session for people living with disability.

Leading into International Games Week, participants can embark on an online Dungeons and Dragons adventure or pick up some pop culture memorabilia at an online Collector Con event on Sunday, November 7.

Other festival online events include:

  • Virtual escape room – Friday 5 November
  • Online trivia night – Saturday 6 November
  • Virtual Pinot and Picasso classes– Sunday 7 November

  1. Gee, that is good to hear. I was involved with the Festival from when it began and helped to build the first Council Float. That we also took to the Sydney Waratah Festival too.
