The Zonta Club of Macarthur annual awards recognise the achievements of local students.
And despite a challenging year with lockdowns and learning from home, the achievements of six young Macarthur women have been singled out in the 2021 awards.
Briannan Eggert, a Year 12 student at Elderslie High School has taken out the Zonta Young Woman in Public Affairs award for outstanding dedication to her studies.
The 2021 Achievement Award for a young indigenous woman has gone to Bella Needham, who is also a Year 12 student of Elizabeth Macarthur High School.
Zonta says Ms Needham has shown outstanding leadership and active community involvement as well as academic achievement.
Bindi-Miai Fair Townsend, Year 12 , St Patrick’s College for Girls, Tiana Roberts, Year 12, Magdalene Catholic College, Tiarne Phillips, Year 12, Elderslie High School, and Amy-Lee Davison, Year 12, Elizabeth Macarthur High School also received recognition for their commitment to their studies in the 2021 Zonta Club of Macarthur Achievement Award for a Young Indigenous Woman.
The awards were a little different in that school principals and students were notified online.
Award certificates are being posted to the winners, instead of a presentation.
“We are planning to invite them to a Zonta function to recognise their achievements – looks like next year as the HSC is starting later and we don’t want to distract them from their studies at this stage,’’ says Zonta’s Yvonne Stapleton.
“We wish them all lots of success in their future studies and careers.
