Greg Warren says the state government has botched the handling of the pandemic in the outer South Western Sydney region.
The state member for Campbelltown says the government had two jobs: explain the reasons for extra restrictions in this region, and secondly, provide sufficient Covid-19 testing facilities and vaccination hubs.
It muddled through both of them, says Mr Warren, who believes the people of this region have been treated unfairly by the Berejiklian regime.
“I have spoken to a number of people in my electorate of Campbelltown and throughout Western and South Western Sydney who understandably feel like we have been singled out and let down by the NSW Government,’’ Mr Warren said.
“The outbreak may have started in the eastern suburbs of Sydney but South Western Sydney seems to have unjustifiably copped the brunt of the blame.’’
As far as Mr Warren is concerned, the extent of this outbreak and the ramifications of the subsequent response fall square at the feet of the NSW Government.
“Many of us are incensed with the extension of lockdown restrictions and the introduction of a curfew,’’ he said.
“If there had been better communication with our region’s residents from the NSW Government, the level of angst, frustration and anger would be much, much lower than what it is right now.’’
Mr Warren said the region had also missed out on the resources needed to fight the pandemic, from testing to vaccinations.
“We also know that the resources, support and decisive action required from the NSW Government to curb the spread in our region has not been forthcoming,’’ he said.
“We need better access to vaccinations, more testing clinics and much clearer information.
“Having people lined up for hundreds of metres waiting for a vaccination or a Covid-19 test is: one, dangerous; and two, absolutely unnecessary and avoidable.
“We are doing our bit in to curb the spread – it’s time the NSW Government did likewise.’’
