Since the pandemic began, Turning Point Camden has been overwhelmed with new referrals for support.
There have also been individual requests from people who have never experienced financial hardship before.
Turning Point Camden is a not-for-profit community welfare and drop-in centre that normally runs great programs such as Crisis Food Pantry, Men’s Breakfast Group, Women’s Support Network and others.
Covid-19 has impacted so many families and individuals in the community Turning Point Camden is now running a modified program and trying to fill the gap left by the current conditions.
Recently it received a much needed cash boost in the form of a $5000 grant from Wests Group Macarthur.
This money will help keep the crisis food pantry stocked with essentials that will be used to relieve some of the financial stress on family food budgets.

Another service that’s right for the times is the Call Connect Camden program. Older people who are feeling isolated during these unprecedented times can stay connected through Call Connect.
The program, which was originally developed during the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, uses established contact lists to reach out to residents and check in on them.
Residents can allocate how frequently they would like to be contacted within a particular time frame.
The service has also been offered to local aged care providers who experience high volumes of calls from seniors who need a social connection. With clients’ permission, additional calls will be forwarded to Camden Council.
For more information on the Call Connect Camden initiative, contact council’s community project officer for seniors on 4645 5020.
