Men’s shed everywhere can now apply for funding under the latest round of National Men’s Shed Development Program (NDSP).
The Australian Men’s Sheds Association manages the NSDP on behalf of the Australian Government.
Round 22 is being made available as part of the annual Men’s Health Week.
The NSDP provides direct financial assistance to men’s sheds to address the health and wellbeing of their members.
Priority is given to those sheds in regional, rural and remote areas and those that engage and meet the needs of members from the designated priority groups.
They include men who are unemployed, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, socially disadvantaged, isolated, with a disability or mental illness, migrants, Defence veterans and those suffering alcohol or drug abuse.
The NSDP is open to both developing and established men’s sheds and also to members and non members of the Australian Men’s Shed Association.
Federal MP Angus Taylor has called on men’s sheds in his electorate of Hume to apply for Round 22 of the NDSP.
“Men’s sheds are a popular way for men to connect with their community – whether it’s through a building project, a first aid workshop or a transition to retirement seminar – that’s why I encourage our local blokes to give a shed a go,” said Mr Taylor, pictured above with members of a local men’s shed.
“There are any number of activities for men to take part in, which in turn, provides that important sense of belonging to a community, particularly for older men and men living in rural and remote areas.
“I encourage all men’s sheds in the electorate to make a submission under this round of funding.”
Men’s sheds can apply for financial support across the following funding categories:
- Category 1: health, wellbeing and events $8,000 maximum
- Category 2: shed improvements $8,000 maximum
- Category 3: equipment $5,000 maximum
