Senior Labor MP Tanya Plibersek says Macarthur is a wonderful place to live and work.

Speaking after a visit earlier today to a local school and a manufacturing plant, Ms Plibersek wasn’t as complimentary about the federal government’s treatment of Macarthur.

“It is inexcusable that the Coalition continues to turn a blind eye to this growing region’s needs,’’ she said after joining local MP Dr Mike Freelander at John Therry Catholic High School in Rosemeadow and Minto manufacturing firm Deco Australia.

“I always enjoy visiting Macarthur and meeting with local residents and business owners,” Ms Plibersek said.

“Schools in Macarthur are doing a terrific job educating our kids.

“But sadly, Macarthur schools are being ignored by Scott Morrison and the Coalition.

“Unlike Scott Morrison, Dr Mike Freelander is fighting hard to make sure local schools get the help they need.

“Labor believes education is the ticket to a lifetime of opportunity.

“We want every Australian to get a great education, no matter where they live – to have the education they need for the job they want.’’

Dr Freelander said that the visit of Ms Plibersek was indicative of Labor’s commitment to the region.

The Labor frontbencher and Member for Sydney is the latest member of the shadow ministry to visit Macarthur, joining a growing list of MPs who have toured the region in recent months.

“Macarthur will always be a priority for federal Labor – I am appreciative that my colleagues understand the importance of investing in our growing region,” Dr Freelander said.

Fellow Labor MP and Campbelltown resident Chris Hayes joined Dr Freelander and Ms Plibersek at John Therry High today.
