Police are appealing for information after a boy was left with a serious leg injury when he was struck by a trail bike near Campbelltown on the weekend.
Officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were called to Rangers Road, St Helens Park on Saturday afternoon following reports an unregistered Yamaha YZ125 had hit two young children before fleeing the scene.
Police have been told an eight-year-old boy was riding a trail bike at the location, when the Yamaha – which was ridden by an unknown person – became airborne and landed on the ground before hitting the boy.
The Yamaha also hit a second trail bike ridden by an 11-year-old girl.
The boy, from Claymore, was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition and the girl, also from Claymore, was taken to Campbelltown Hospital, where she was later released pending further examination.
Police attended and established a crime scene, which was examined by officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
Three bikes were seized from the location.
Police are appealing for information regarding the Yamaha YZ125 rider who left the scene.

A man has lost his licence for six months after being detected travelling at more than 150km/h along Menangle Road.
Traffic and Highway Patrol officers attached to Campbelltown Highway Patrol were patrolling Menangle Road on Friday afternoon when a Ford Falcon XR6T sedan was allegedly detected travelling 152km/h in an 80km/h zone.
The vehicle was stopped, and the 47-year-old male driver produced a MR licence. He was issued a penalty infringement notice for driving over 45KM/h, an offence which includes a $2,482 fine and six demerit points. His licence was suspended for six months.

Police have caught two P1 licence holders travelling more than 45kph over the speed limit on the Hume Highway near Campbelltown.
Officers from Traffic & Highway Patrol Campbelltown, were conducting stationary speed enforcement when a northbound BMW sedan was clocked at 142kph in a 110kph zone.
Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke with the 20-year-old driver. He produced a P1 licence that restricts him to a maximum speed of 90kph.
He was issued with a $2,482 fine and his licence was suspended on the spot for six months.
Less than an hour later a Holden Barina was observed travelling north on the Hume Motorway, also at Blairmount, and appeared to be well over the speed limit.
Near the intersection of Narellan Road, police checked the vehicle’s speed at 160kph in the 110kph zone.
The vehicle was stopped, and the 23-year-old female driver was also issued with a $2,482 fine and had her licence suspended for six months.
Inspector William Darnell, attached to Traffic & Highway Patrol at Campbelltown said police are out in force and can check speed anywhere, anytime.
“We will continue confiscating licences and issuing fines to those drivers who put other road users, and themselves, at risk,” Inspector Darnell said.
