Last Thursday, Wests Group Macarthur gave more than 100 bottles of milk to Big Yellow Umbrella, Camden Connections.
The milk will go to local people affected by domestic violence, financial hardship, and homelessness.
A few days earlier, the group’s four clubs, Wests Leagues Club, Wests Tennis Club, Country Club Gledswood Hills and Lakeside Golf Club Camden (with the exception of the golf course) were closed for an indefinite period due to the coronavirus.
As one of the most generous organisations in the region, it was decided that any food supplies left in the kitchens of the clubs would be given away to staff and charity groups.
In the past five years, Wests, who have around 70,000 members and employed 350 people, have donated more than $10 million in club grants to community, welfare and sporting groups.
Food, venue and voucher donations to those in need has also been a constant part of Wests Group’s community focus over the years.
Now Wests Group Macarthur have pledged to be an even stronger community organisation after the coronavirus emergency ends and clubs are allowed to reopen their doors.
Tony Mathew, the CEO of Wests Group Macarthur, said last week was a very difficult time for everybody.
“This has been an exceptionally difficult time as an employer and we are doing our very best to work through the complexities of this aspect of Covid-19 ramifications and to look after our Wests family,’’ Mr Mathew said.
“Heartbreaking decisions have had to be made as we face this reality.
“However we are committed to the return of our staff members and supporting them through this time with care packages, food donations and access to online and telephone support and advice.
“The primary focus now is to ensure that when the shutdown is lifted, the industry can resume trading, and continue making our communities better places to live and work.’’
