Spring Farm Parkway road to nowhere for five more years

The NSW Labor Opposition has slammed the Berejiklian Government for putting the brakes on building the long awaited Spring Farm Parkway, despite promising to deliver the vital piece of infrastructure “as soon as possible.”

It has now been revealed stage one of the key east-west link to support the Greater Macarthur area won’t be complete for at least five years, with no timeframe for the second stage.

This means residents will be waiting until after the next election until the first stage is complete.

And in that time the population of the Camden Local Government Area is expected to almost double, growing to an estimated 150,000 people in 2026.

NSW Labor Leader Jodi McKay said it’s unacceptable for the growing region to wait that long for the vitally needed road.

“It’s not asking for much to expect government infrastructure to keep pace with development, not come years afterwards,” Ms McKay said.

“The people of Camden deserve better, I am calling on the government to fast track this vital piece of infrastructure for Western Sydney.”

Labor’s Western Sydney spokesman and Campbelltown MP Greg Warren says “it is clear the premier is more worried about the commercial interests in other areas of Sydney, rather than focusing on the ever increasing demands in the growing west and south west of the metropolitan area.

“What was once a fully planned initiative under the previous Labor government has now become a road to nowhere under the NSW Liberals.

State Government delays in building the vital Spring Farm Parkway mean it’s the road to nowhere for five years, say Labor leader Jodi McKay and local MP Greg Warren.

“This was a key campaign promise. I’m outraged that these already furious residents, who are sitting on continuously congested roads, now have to wait until the next election to see the first stage of this project,’’ Mr Warren said.

“Stage one is only a matter of 900 metres of road. It is ridiculous to take five years to build 900 metres.’’
