New railway stations by 2040: we’ll believe it when we see them, says MP

The state government is promising to build more railway stations in outer South West Sydney between now and 2040.

But it has such a poor record when it comes to keeping its infrastructure promises, local MP Greg Warren says it will be a case of “we’ll believe it when we see them’’.

He says this explains his scepticism over the recent announcement by planning minister Rob Stokes that the government will build new stations out here.

Mr Warren, who is pictured below, points out that there have been several projects the government has refused to commit to, delayed beginning construction on, or abandoned all together since 2011.

“I certainly won’t be holding my breath for this ‘promise’ to come to fruition,’’ he said.

“In 2015 the Premier – in her capacity as transport minister – promised to build 450 new commuter car spaces at Campbelltown train station.

“But that promise was officially broken and that project abandoned last year.

“In 2015 the Premier – again in her capacity as transport minister – promised the ‘days of travelling in a cold train in winter and a hot train in summer’ were over.

“Four years later and Campbelltown commuters were still sweating and freezing in train carriages that weren’t air-conditioned.

“Stage one of the Spring Farm Parkway is years behind its original completion date while no real progress regarding Appin Road upgrades have been made since 2011 either,’’ Mr Warren said.

“History proves this government cannot be trusted to deliver on its promises made to the people of Campbelltown and the wider Macarthur.”
