When Warren Thomson, Alan Buxton and Paul Lake were elected to the Wests board in 2003 there was just the club premises at Leumeah, modest membership and staff numbers.

Now known as Wests Group Macarthur, the organisation has grown to four venues, 350 staff and a membership of more than 72,000.

Mr Thomson, Mr Buxton and Mr Lake have been part of that 16 year journey as directors of the board.

At this year’s Wests Group Macarthur AGM, Mr Warren stepped down as chairman of the board after three years in the role.

Mr Buxton was appointed chairman, with former Campbelltown mayor Paul Lake as deputy chair.

Mr Thomson will continue to serve on the board as a director.

Honoured: Wests Group Macarthur deputy chair Paul Lake, director Warren Thomson and chairman Alan Buxton receiving 15 year service awards from Leagues Club Association Australia in November. All three were first elected directors of the Wests board in 2003.

“I am extremely proud to have served the club as chairman for the last few years, and I am happy to continue serving on the board,” Mr Thomson told the AGM last Sunday.

“Alan was a great support to me in his role as deputy chair and I have every confidence that he will excel in the position of chairman.

“I would like to thank my fellow board members, Wests Group Macarthur CEO Tony Mathew and the management team for their hard work and dedication during my time as chairman.”

The changes within the board come at a time when the club is enjoying huge momentum.

The Country Club at Gledswood Hills is currently undergoing renovations and will soon open a new outdoor dining area, a dedicated children’s play area and new parking facilities.

“I am grateful to Warren and all of the board for the leadership and support they have provided over the years,”said Wests Group Macarthur CEO Tony Mathew.

“I wish Alan and Paul the best of luck in their new positions and look forward to working with them in the coming year.”

Wests Campbelltown has also just opened its new eatery, The Hub.

“The Hub is an eclectic group of dining options, all operating out of the one shared location,” explains Wests food and beverage manager Simon McNamara.  “We have Deli Style sandwiches by day, Italian dishes at night, Asian Fusion all day and a Sushi and Tempura outlet opening soon.”

Wests Group Macarthur have also recently finished improvements to the course at Lakeside Golf Club Camden, with eight new greens now playable.

They are set to begin the development of a new club, also to be located in the Gledswood Hills area.

The new venue will be called The Greens and will consist of a Greg Norman designed nine hole course, with the latest technology to add to a driving range experience.

“The changes within the board will not affect our growth strategy,’’ says new chairman Alan Buxton.

“We all share the same vision for the club and will continue to work together towards achieving our goals.

“I look forward taking on this new challenge and to working closely with Tony and the rest of our team,’’ Mr Buxton said.
