It will be a David and Goliath fight for Campbelltown in the March 23 NSW state election after the Liberal Party selected a young candidate to take on Labor’s experienced warrior Greg Warren.
Riley Munro, 24, a disability support worker from Ingleburn, has worked for the former State Member for Campbelltown, Bryan Doyle, and Russell Matheson, a former Federal Member for Macarthur. Mr Doyle held the seat of Campbelltown between 2011 and 2015 before losing it to Mr Warren.
“I have lived in Campbelltown my entire life and deeply care about the prosperity of our region,” Mr Munro said.
“Bryan and Russell are great examples of Liberals delivering for our community.’’
He was educated at Holy Family Primary School and St Gregory’s College before completing a bachelor of arts at the University of Notre Dame.
As well as his work supporting people living with disability, Riley regularly volunteers with local branches of the Benevolent Society and Mission Australia.
He also volunteers and serves as state secretary for Fair Game Australia – a youth charity which promotes health and wellbeing by delivering sport programs and equipment.
Mr Munro said he was humbled by his endorsement and the support from the Liberal Party.
“I’m looking forward to meeting local residents and businesses and hearing about the issues that matter to them.
As a keen sportsman and member of the Eschol Park Football Club, I know that sport plays a big role in the life of our community and I will also advocate for further funding to support the council in upgrading our multiple sporting facilities.’’
Mr Munro defended the performance of the the Liberal Government currently led by Gladys Berejiklian.
“The Liberal Government has led an infrastructure boom in south west Sydney, working hard to repair our economy and stimulate growth,’’ he said.
“We are out of debt and in a position to help take the pressure off families and create more jobs and opportunities in Campbelltown.
“The government will continue to invest in essential services, such as Campbelltown hospital, local schools and our roads network.
“I’m also excited about the $18.75 million water recreation park announced by the NSW Government and Campbelltown Council last week as part of the Western Parkland City Liveability Program.
“If I am elected in March I will ensure Billabong Parklands becomes a landmark in our great region.’’
