Both south west Sydney grade cricket clubs, Camden Campbelltown Ghosts and Fairfield Liverpool Lions, suffered heavy defeats yesterday.
The Ghosts were all out for 164 chasing Parramatta’s 232 at Old Kings Oval, while the Lions made just 92 batting first against St George, who needed a mere 22 overs to reach the target.
With just the last round remaining, the Ghosts are now realistically out of the running for finals contention while the Lions dropped out a few weeks ago.
Ghosts sit 13th on the ladder with 36 points, eight points out of the top six, while Lions are 17th on just 18 points.
The Ghosts will host Gordon in round 15 in a couple of weeks’ time, while Liverpool are also at home versus Parramatta.
Fast bowler Harmon Sandhu was the top scorer for the Lions, making 33 out of a total of 92 at Hurstville Oval. The only other contribution of note was opener Wendel Delpechitra’s 11 runs.
The Lions batted for 29.2 overs, while St George needed 22.2 overs to reach the required 93 runs for victory.
Across town at Old Kings Oval, Parramatta amassed 232 off their allotted 50 overs, a total which proved elusive for the Ghosts.
Scott Coyte offered some resistance with the bat, making 47 before he was run out. Ben Bourke was also run out for 37, while Ryan Gibson contributed 33 before getting out.
