[dropcap]L[/dropcap]ooks like Narellan Town Centre will be first cab off the rank in launching the Christmas season.
Yes, here we are in October talking about the big day on December 25, but with Narellan starting on Saturday, November 10, there’s no other option.
Christmas at Narellan will happen from 6pm with market stalls, live entertainment, Christmas carols, amusement rides, fireworks and the lighting of the Christmas tree kicking off the festive season.

Also happening on the same day (Saturday, November 10) could be something completely different: the rollout out of a very, very long knitted white ribbon along Queen Street, which will be closed to traffic for the Festival of Fisher’s Ghost Street Fair from 10am to 2pm.
Sonya Moulang, of Bar Centrale, who has joined the bid to break the world record for the longest awareness ribbon ever knitted, told Macarthur Chatter she was hoping the organisers of the Guinness Book of Records attempt would come to Campbelltown from Taree to pick up the local contribution.
At last count Ms Moulang’s drive had produced more than 125 metres towards the record, which is currently held in the USA, and is a ribbon 2,424.11 metres long.
She has cajoled customers, and VIPs such as the mayor George Brticevic, to contribute a stitch or two or more.
“Hopefully we can roll it out on Queen Street before we hand it over to the organisers,’’ Ms Moulang said.

South West Sydney media were not amused that they were snubbed at the first opportunity they had of meeting new PM Scott Morrison.
Just a few days after he was elected to the top job, Mr Morrison came to Badgerys Creek to turn the first sod towards major earthworks about to start.
But despite being on a media invite list provided to the PM’s people, local journos never got an invite.

Campbelltown MP Greg Warren has scored a quick victory after calling for a visual barrier between a local school and a jail for young offenders.
Just days after his call made the media, the State Government has announced mature trees will be planted between Briar Road Public and Reiby detention centre for juveniles at Airds.
Warren wasn’t so happy about the response to his calls for more action on the substantial drop in capacity of the two local dams that serve Macarthur.
It didn’t help that energy and utilities minister Don Harwin took no less than 57 days to write back to our feisty MP.
Mr Warren points out that despite the recent rainfall, levels in Cataract Dam and Cordeaux Dam are still only 32.6 per cent and 36.2 per cent full, respectively, so the situation is serious and requires action.
“To say I’m bitterly disappointed with the minister’s slow response would be a gross understatement,’’ Mr Warren quipped.

It may be the closest thing we get to a Greek restaurant in the Macarthur region, but it sounds like Chicken Wizard Mount Annan may be worth a visit.
Sotiri and Roula Zafiropoulos, who have been in the food business more than 40 years, aim to offer a variety of fresh foods including authentic home style Greek cooking.
Drop in to Shop 8, 1 Raintree Way, Mount Annan and say “yiasou’’ (hello).

Education minister Rob Stokes will be guest speaker at a State of the Cities – Campbelltown conference on Friday, November 9, between 10.45am and 2pm.
The media release spiel says Mr Stokes has a unique insight into both the urban and education potential of Campbelltown.
Maybe someone should ask him how taking one of our greatest schools from us, Hurlstone Agricultural High School helps South West Sydney and Macarthur.

Macquarie Fields MP Anoulack Chanthivong (third from left) has officially opened the new Return and Earn bulk container return point at Hoxton Industries in Louise Avenue, Ingleburn.
He says this is a great initiative helping people conveniently (and quickly) recycle their bottles, cans and cartons for 10c refund, while at the same time creating jobs for people with disabilities and other barriers to mainstream employment.
The bulk return point operates Monday to Saturday, 8am to 4pm.
