Forget the Tour de France – Campbelltown’s annual ready to Ride Day is the place to be on Sunday, September 16.

The free community event is held every year during NSW Bike Week to promote bicycle safety and the health benefits of cycling.

This year’s event will be held at Willowdale Park from 10am to midday.

A free 20-minute Learn to Ride session will also be held on the day, but bookings are essential and can be made by phoning 4645 4376.

Other activities on the day include a road safety quiz with prizes, bike skills, cycling on the circuit, free bike maintenance checks, a healthy morning tea and a free jumping castle and face painting for the children.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said Ready to Ride Day was a free community event which combined bike safety education with fun activities for families and riders of all ages.

“There will be loads of things to do, so grab your bike and helmet and come along to have some fun while teaching your kids to be safe on the roads,’’ he said.

In the lead-up to Ready to Ride Day, Campbelltown City Library, in collaboration with the Bicycle Education Centre, will be hosting free educational talks for parents, carers and children.

The Get Ready to Ride talks will be held at HJ Daley Library, Campbelltown, next Tuesday, September 11 and at Greg Percival Library, Ingleburn, on Friday, September 14, both from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

The talks cover how to teach your child to ride, how to fit and wear a helmet, bike maintenance and safety, safe places to ride and bicycle laws and rules.

Parents and carers can also bring along their child’s helmet for a free inspection.

Bookings for the Get Ready to Ride talks are essential and can be made by phoning HJ Daley Library on 4645 4444 or Greg Percival Library on 4645 4060.

In addition, the Bicycle Education Centre in King Street, Campbelltown, provides learn to ride and education programs for the community and also hosts free open days on Sundays and during the school holidays.
