The banks of the Nepean River at Camden will be repopulated with thousands of native plants as part of National Tree Day.

Volunteers are invited to don their hats and gloves this Sunday, July 29, to take part in this year’s event, which was designed to regenerate the Camden White Gum population.

Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak says the 2018 National Tree Day event would also mark the first phase of council’s Creating Habitat for Camden White Gum Project.

“We’re dedicating this year’s National Tree Day to ensuring the survival of our beautiful White Gums into the future, and invite all residents to take part,” Cr Symkowiak said.

“Our new project will see more than 2,000 plants gradually added to the area beside the Nepean River,” she said.

“In doing this we remind ourselves of the importance of our natural environment, and how it contributes to the sustainability and wellbeing of present and future generations.”

Last year’s event focused on rejuvenating bushland in Harrington Park, including sections of critically endangered Cumberland Plain Woodland, which is exclusive to western Sydney.

All residents are welcome to join the cause this year and enjoy a sausage sizzle after the planting.

The National Tree Day event will be held at Camden Town Farm from 9am-1pm, on Sunday, July 29.
