The driver of a Porsche has been charged with speeding and drink driving after he was caught allegedly travelling nearly 190 km/h at Leppington early this morning.

About 2.20am Macquarie Fields Highway Patrol officers were patrolling Camden Valley Way when they noticed a Porsche Cayenne allegedly travelling in excess of the 80km/h signposted area.

Police estimated the vehicle to be allegedly travelling between 180km/h and 190km/h.

When police stopped the car, the driver produced a provisional licence. He was subjected to a breath test, which proved positive.

The 32-year-old man was arrested and taken to Eagle Vale Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis returning a reading of 0.075.

He was charged with drive speed dangerous, exceed speed limit, use unregistered vehicle, not display P plates and low range PCA.

Police confiscated the man’s driver’s licence and the registration plates.

He was issued with a court attendance notice to appear in Campbelltown Local Court on July 9.

  • Police remind motorists that double demerits apply throughout the four-day operation Operation Stay Alert, which started at 12.01am on Friday, June 8.

It concludes at 11.59pm on Monday, June 11.

So far this year, 154 people have already lost their lives on NSW roads, four more than the same time last year.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, said the vast majority of crashes are avoidable if road users showed the required responsibility and obeyed the traffic rules.

“We continue to see examples of irresponsible driving behaviour, including drink and drug driving, distraction, not using a seat belt and fatigue, which all lead to serious crashes and fatalities on NSW roads,” Commissioner Corboy said.

“I am appealing to all road users to slow down, drive to the conditions especially with wet weather forecast and abide by the traffic rules.

“You will see more police presence on the roads and we will make no apologies for stopping road users who are doing the wrong thing and putting themselves and others at risk.’’
