Police have arrested two teenagers after a pursuit through Macarthur and parts of Western Sydney which reached speeds of up to 250km/h.
Officers attached to Campbelltown Highway Patrol detected a Range Rover allegedly travelling 176km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Hume Highway, Campbelltown around 2pm yesterday.
Officers attempted to pull the car over; however, the driver failed to stop and police initiated a pursuit.
The pursuit was terminated as the car reached speeds of 250km/h and continued to drive erratically.
Polair continued to track the car for about 20 minutes and followed the car to a shopping centre carpark in Werrington, where it is alleged the driver got into another car.
A short time later, police from the Nepean Proactive Crime Team stopped the second vehicle and arrested two youth and a woman. They were taken to Penrith Police Station.
The 17-year-old driver of the Range Rover was charged with drive recklessly/furiously and in manner dangerous, police pursuit, unlicensed (never held), take and drive conveyance and goods in custody.
The other 17-year-old youth, driving the second car, was charged with take and drive conveyance, and unlicensed (never held).
Both were refused bail and appeared in a children’s court earlier today.
The 19-year-old woman was released pending further inquiries.
Police say inquiries reveal the Range Rover was stolen from Castle Cove on April 24 and is valued at $230,000.
Investigations are continuing.
