Up to $150,000 of funding is available in the federal seat of Werriwa this year for small capital projects which improve community participation and contribute to the vibrancy of our local community.

The money is made available through the Commonwealth Government’s Stronger Communities Program and local member Anne Stanley is encouraging local organisations to apply.

“Only last week I hosted the 2017 Werriwa Volunteer of the Year Awards, which highlighted the incredible contribution of community organisations and their volunteers to the South West Sydney region,” Ms Stanley said.

Some of the volunteers recognised included Bill Dickinson from The Whiddon Group, Donna Poynting from South West Community Transport and Sid Bowerman from Myrtle Cottage.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community, committing many hours and injecting many millions of dollars into our economy,’’ said Ms Stanley.

“It was my great pleasure to host a morning tea to recognise some of Werriwa’s great volunteers.

“I acknowledge and thank Werriwa’s volunteers of the year,’’ Ms Stanley said.

“The Stronger Communities Program will provide further assistance to these organisations and ensure they can continue to perform their vital work in our community.”

If the program sounds like something your organisation may be interested in, please submit an expression of interest by return email to anne.stanley.mp@aph.gov.au that includes the following information:

• Name of club/group/organisation;

• What you would like to spend the funding on;

• How much funding is required;

• How much can be matched by your organisation and will this be cash, or in-kind.

Expressions of Interest are due by this Sunday, August 6. Grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 are available for each capital project.

To be eligible, the projects require matched contributions, in cash or in kind, and nominees must be a legal entity and have an ABN.  Local government and incorporated not-for-profit organisations are eligible to apply.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Anne’s office on 9829 7477.
