New vehicle sales by luxury carmaker Lexus advanced 13.2 per cent last month on the back of record May deliveries of its premium SUV Lines.
The brand’s May result of 767 sales was significantly stronger than the 689 vehicles delivered by the Lexus dealer network in April.
Lexus NX, RX and LX SUVs accounted for 515 deliveries last month, which was 39.2 per cent higher than April and a gain of 8.9 per cent over May last year.
The marque’s top-selling NX Line recorded its best May since launch with 306 deliveries, representing increases of 30.2 per cent over April and 11.7 per cent compared with May last year.
Flagship LX achieved its highest May demand since 2008, resulting in a 2017 total that is almost 60 per cent ahead of the same stage last year.
The Lexus premium CT 200h hatch and the IS sports sedan have also enjoyed sales growth this year – 30.7 per cent and 1.9 per cent respectively.
Lexus chief executive Peter McGregor said the company’s total sales in 2017 were close to matching the record breaking pace achieved last year.
“Vibrant models with strong emotional engagement and excitement such as the NX, RX, RC F and GS F are changing the way Lexus is perceived by customers,’’ Mr McGregor said.

Mr McGregor said Lexus sales would benefit from continued expansion of dealer representation in population-growth corridors.
