Roadworks to improve safety for south west Sydney motorists

Roadworks to start next week: the Hume Highway at Warwick Farm.

South west Sydney region motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions at the intersection of the Hume Highway and Sappho Road at Warwick Farm from next week for essential maintenance work to be carried out.

Work will involve removing the existing traffic light and post, installing a new traffic light and extended mast arm to improve visibility for eastbound motorists on the Hume Highway.

Work will be carried out for around six day shifts between Monday, May 29 and Friday, June 30 from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, excluding public holidays and weather permitting.

To minimise the impact to motorists, around four shifts of night work will also be carried between 7pm and 5am, weather permitting.

Traffic control and lane closures will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.

Work is also continuing to install a permanent electronic message sign on the westbound approach to Sappho Road from 7pm to 5am and 7am to 5pm on weekdays.

“Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.

• Essential intersection improvement work will also start next week on the Bardia Parade, Walder Road and Heathcote Road intersection at Holsworthy.

They includes a dedicated right turn movement from Walder Road and Bardia Parade onto Heathcote Road to improve safety at this busy intersection.

Work is scheduled to be carried out between 7am and 5pm Sunday to Friday, excluding public holidays and weather permitting, starting from next Monday and to be completed by June 30.

Night work will also be carried out between 8pm and 5am Sunday to Friday.

♦ In other south west region news, a NSW Government community forum on domestic and family violence to be hosted by State Member for Holsworthy Melanie Gibbons will be held on Friday, June 2.

Interested local residents invited to attend.

Ms Gibbons said Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Minister Pru Goward will attend the forum along with experts from NSW Police, the Department of Family and Community Services and non-government service providers.

“Forums such as these are a great opportunity for local residents to gain insights about the issue, and talk to domestic and family violence experts on the frontline,” Ms Goward said.

The Holsworthy domestic and family violence community forum will be held at 10am on Friday 2 June 2017 at Brighton Lakes Recreation and Golf Club.
