Crunchy crickets, meal worms and ants are on the menu at this year’s AnnanRoma food and wine festival at the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan on April 3.
Among the delicious food, wine and beer options, organisers are keen to include a variety of activities for the whole family, and that means cooking demonstrations that will add flair and fun in the ninth edition of this popular annual festival.
Bug expert Butterfly Skye will be hosting insect cooking demonstrations on the day with plenty of samples for the brave-at-heart – or should that be palate.
Roasted crickets are a staple and beautifully complement a dish flavoured with ant seasoning salt. For those who prefer their insects uncooked, a unique mobile butterfly house will be on display.
“Cooking shows continue to pull the ratings so we are amping up the event with some really wild cooking demos,” says Rebecca Anderson, the visitor experience manager at the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan.
To accompany Sydney’s latest burger obsession organisers have also beefed up their offering for the event.
A host of gourmet burger options will be available, from Burger Frank to BC Burgers, giving festival guests the chance to find their perfect combination.
Other event highlights will include an art/craft space run by the Campbelltown Art Centre, Indigenous bush food tours led by the Australian Botanic Garden’s Indigenous officers and a jumping castle and face painting for younger children.
Adults will be treated to live entertainment from the The Vanns, supported by local talent Karleigh Rose and the Macarthur Ukuleles.
Roving entertainment will cap off what will be a great day full of fun, food and friends.
