Australia Day honours, community festivities planned

Locals are encouraged to come together with family and friends, grab their picnic chairs and join the community for an Australia Day celebration at Koshigaya Park on Friday, January 26.

The Campbelltown Council free community event will feature live stage entertainment, kids’ activity stations, food trucks, free carnival rides and a fireworks display at 9pm.

Australia Day awards recipients, including 2024 Citizen of the Year, will be announced at a civic ceremony at Greg Percival Community Centre from 9am to 10am, followed by two citizenship ceremonies.

At Koshigaya Park, the festivities will kick off from 4pm.

Australia Day is a time of reflection and celebration for our community, highlighting our diverse community here in Campbelltown and across Australia,” says Mayor George Greiss.

“This year’s celebration promises to be a great family event, with fantastic live performances, delicious food and plenty of family entertainment,” Dr Greiss said.

A full line-up of stage performers is planned for the day including Susannah Mirana’s Olivia-Newton John tribute show, We Honestly Love You, and a powerful finale from The Australian Rock Trilogy.

3 Way Split and The Rubber Band are also part of the stage entertainment at Koshigaya Park.

Kids’ activity stations are planned throughout the event, including a special Bluey meet and greet, featuring characters from the popular television series and the Australian Reptile Show, showcasing a selection of Australian native animals.

Bryce Collins, a junior international athletics champion in hurdles will be the 2024 Australia Day ambassador at the presentation of the awards and the citizenship ceremonies.

Professional skateboarder Ms Amar Hadid has been appointed ambassador for Camden.

Artist Yianni Johns will perform the ambassadorial duties at Wollondilly Shire’s Australia Day celebrations.

At Liverpool, the Australia Day ambassador will be Terrence O’Connell, a 2016 NSW Senior Australian of the Year finalist.
