A $2.6 million commitment to upgrade Minto Indoor Sports Complex is one of the biggest promises of the May 3 election so far.
The member for Macarthur, Dr Mike Freelander, has announced this week that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will fund work that would improve the playing experience.
Work will include an upgrade of all four indoor courts to new timber sprung, which will replace the original flooring installed more than 30 years ago.
This would players of all age groups can safely enjoy the Minto Indoor Sports Complex for many years to come.
With men’s and women’s teams of all abilities competing in basketball, futsal, netball and badminton competitions, as well as social events held there, this project will enhance the social and sporting experience of Macarthur residents, says Dr Freelander.
With over 132,000 visitors in 2024, Dr Freelander says he understands the importance of the Minto Indoor Sports Complex in serving the Macarthur region and hopes these upgrades will help the next generation of sporting stars come from South West Sydney.
“As a doctor, father and grandfather, I understand the importance of physical activity and ensuring residents of all ages and abilities can access well-maintained sporting facilities, and that is exactly what this election commitment from Federal Labor will deliver,’’ Dr Freelander said.
“Whether it’s a school futsal event, a wheelchair basketball competition or a group of friends entering a netball tournament, our election commitment to upgrade all four courts means the Minto Indoor Sports Complex can continue serving our region for many more years to come.”
