Two brand new bus routes for the Wollondilly Shire have been announced by Transport for NSW.

The services will start operating later this month. One is a weekday express peak time route from Wilton to Campbelltown, and the second a new service from Picton to Wollongong via Wilton.

“These new bus routes are fantastic news for our community and will make a real difference for residents who currently rely heavily on cars to get to work, study, health appointments and essential services in our neighbouring centres,” says Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould.

“Council together with our local NSW MPs Greg Warren and Judy Hannan have been consistently advocating for better public transport across Wollondilly, particularly as our population grows.

“This announcement shows that our community’s needs are being heard.

“Our community relies heavily on cars and spends hours commuting out of the area, which has a big impact on wellbeing and health.

“The new routes will strengthen connections between Wollondilly, Macarthur and the Illawarra, supporting more choice and flexibility for residents,’’ he said.

“The Picton to Wollongong hourly bus service will be particularly welcomed by students travelling to the University of Wollongong, as well as people wanting to visit the beach or shopping centres.

“Until now there has been no regular direct public transport connection to the Illawarra, despite it being so close.

“These new bus services also represent an important step in delivering on the recommendations of the independent Western Sydney transport infrastructure panel, which identified improved public transport connectivity between Wilton and Campbelltown as a regional priority.’’

Mayor Gould said fast and reliable city-rail train services are the next major priority for Wollondilly.

“Council welcomes this positive investment in our growing communities and looks forward to continuing to work with the NSW Government to deliver other vital transport connections recommended by the report, particularly the extension and electrification of the T8 rail line to at least Wilton, and the Macarthur Metro to Campbelltown as part of the full Outer Western Sydney Metro,’’ he said.
