A man who is currently in Silverwater prison allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at a parked car in Eagle Vale, causing thousands of dollars in fire damage.

Police say that about 3.50am on Sunday, August 9 of this year, they were called to Sapphire Place, Eagle Vale, following reports of a car fire.

Officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command attended and found a vehicle well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews extinguished the blaze, but not before the vehicle sustained damage to its exterior.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Following inquiries, last Wednesday, October 28, detectives executed a search warrant at an address on Kemira Place, Cartwright, and seized mobile phones, a ledger and a black bag containing rubber gloves, a black balaclava, black clothing, paper towel, a bottle of bleach and a glass jar.

Police also seized a Holden sedan allegedly seen leaving the Sapphire Place address shortly after the August 9 fire began.

Following further inquiries, detectives attended a correctional facility at Silverwater and arrested a 29-year-old man where he was charged with damaging property by fire or explosive greater than $15,000.

Police will allege in court the man threw a Molotov cocktail at the vehicle to cause the fire.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 today (Monday, November 2).
