Offering: Gifts of Glenfield, a large-scale public installation artwork will be the centrepice of a $2.5 million makeover of the Glenfield town centre.
The installation by artist Anney Bounpraseuth was inspired by a combination of traditional Lao weaving, pop culture and Glenfield’s rich diversity.
Once complete by the middle of next year, the artwork will help transform garden beds and street furniture into a shared story place that celebrates the community connection.
Construction is now under way along Railway Parade in the vicinity of the railway station and transport hub.
The project will deliver improved accessibility with new shared pathways and pedestrian crossings, enhanced public spaces with landscaping, new paving and street furniture.
“As Glenfield grows, it’s important that our public spaces keep up with the needs of the people who live here,’’ says Mayor Darcy Lound, who joined local member Anoulack Chanthivong for the official start of work on the project.
“The upgrades to Glenfield Town Centre will better serve its growing community and help residents make the most of this important local destination,” he said.
“Glenfield is an important transport hub, with thousands utilising the train station every day.
“Investing in our town centre is about creating a place where everyone feels welcome and enjoy a more attractive and vibrant public space.’’
The member for Macquarie Fields said the project would transform Glenfield – a thriving transport hub.
“I’m delighted to celebrate the commencement of works to revitalise Glenfield to create a connected, inclusive space for our growing community to serve future generations,” he said.
During construction access to certain points along Railway Parade will be restricted, including parking, pedestrian and cyclist changes.
The Glenfield town centre beautification and public art project is funded by the NSW Government through the Western Sydney infrastructure grants program.
