Receiving $13.52 million for five major road projects is a big win for local residents, says Wollondilly Shire Council.

When you consider that Wollondilly received approximately 10 percent of the $134.72 million allocated nationally and 20 percent of NSW’s funding allocation it certainly is an impressive result.

Council says it’s a positive recognition of the increasing infrastructure needs of the fastest growing local government area in NSW.

The projects that will benefit are the Barkers Lodge Road roundabout at Picton, flood mitigation works on Burragorang Road at Mount Hunter, Montpelier Drive at The Oaks (pictured above), Park and Myrtle Avenues at Tahmoor, and Razorback Bridge over Racecourse Creek.

The funding came from the tranche five of the Australian Government’s safer local roads infrastructure program.

Together with a $5.01 million investment by Council, this will see $18.5 million invested into what are high priority road projects.

“Council is making a massive investment in our road network, so it’s fantastic to see that all five of our applications for this round of the program have been successful,’’ says Mayor Matt Gould.

“With Wollondilly’s population increasing as we do our part to provide much-needed housing, this funding will provide an important boost in the delivery of our road projects to improve safety for our current and future residents.

“Council has been proactively engaging with our residents to seek support for these projects, with community feedback playing an important role in securing the funding.

“As part of our application, we held community engagement sessions and sent out questionnaires to hear directly from residents about their experiences, concerns and priorities for some of these local roads.

“Thank you to everyone who took the time to have their say and contribute to such a positive outcome for our community. The successful funding will help turn this feedback into meaningful improvements to our local road network.

“A big thank-you also to the minister for regional development, local government and territories Kristy McBain and the Australian Government under the safer local roads infrastructure program for their investment into Wollondilly’s road network.”
