To mark the 70th anniversary of the the Festival of Fisher’s Ghost an official theme song was commissioned.
Home (We made it our own) has just been revealed as the song for the festival, which starts in just two weeks.
The song is by True Vibenation, a band that not only calls Campbelltown home, but reveal the iconic festival played a big role in their lives growing up.
Members of True Vibenation grew up in Campbelltown and have gone on to perform across Australia, Europe, UK and Asia, earning an international fan base and worldwide audience.
Now, the artists are returning to their hometown to perform at the Festival of Fisher’s Ghost, the festival where they made their debut live performance as teenagers.
Known for their irresistible fusion of soul, Afrobeat and hip hop, True Vibenation bring together big bass, big beats and live horns to create their signature high-energy sound.
Creating theme music is not new territory for True Vibenation, who previously were commissioned by the ABC to write the new Weekends theme for Mornings with Dylan Lewis, bringing their distinctive sound to audiences across Australia.
With support from Joint Adventure, Home (We made it our own) speaks to how Fisher’s Ghost Festival has profoundly shaped the musicians’ careers.
“We were really honoured to be able to write this song for our hometown in the area we grew up,’’ the band said in a media statement.
“Our first ever gig as a band was at Fisher’s Ghost Festival and our first ever music workshops as teenagers were in Campbelltown.
“Without these fundamental steps in our story, we wouldn’t have been able to have careers in music.
“For us, Fisher’s Ghost Festival has always been a really great time where the community comes together to celebrate each other and the area.
“Thanks to Campbelltown Arts Centre and Campbelltown Council for helping to make this song a reality.”
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Darcy Lound, thanked the band for their involvement.
“We’re excited to unveil our new Fisher’s Ghost Festival theme song by True Vibenation, who grew up right here in Campbelltown,” he said.
“As we celebrate 70 years of the Fisher’s Ghost Festival, it’s wonderful to have a song that captures the spirit and shared memories of growing up in Campbelltown.
“I would like to thank True Vibenation for their collaboration and for creating a song that reflects our city’s history while celebrating the community we are today,” he said.
The Festival of Fisher’s Ghost will take place from Thursday, October 29 to Sunday, November 8.
True Vibenation will perform Home (We Made It Our Own) at the festival for the first time.
