Liam Rose faces the media after being named Bulls club captain for the new season.

Big time football returns to Campbelltown Stadium this Saturday when Macarthur FC host Perth Glory in round one of the 2026-27 A-League premiership.

The Bulls will be close to a brand new team, under a brand new coach in former Socceroo Sasa Ognenovski.

Their off-season “renewal’’ method of releasing a stack of players and signing a bunch of new ones has worked so far in that it has made the club competitive every season since their entry into the league back in season 2020-21.

However what was noticeable in the past three years was running out of steam in the last six or so rounds of the premiership and failing to make the playoffs.

It’s not clear if it was a fitness issue or mental fatigue but no doubt it’s something that Ognenovski will need to address in 2026-27.

Yesterday, the Bulls announced that Liam Rose would be captain of the club’s 2026/27 A-League men squad.

A familiar face in Bulls history, Rose first joined the club during its inaugural season before returning ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. Since then, he has continued to make his mark, both on and off the pitch.

The 2025/26 season was a memorable one for Rose, scoring his first A-League goal, claiming the Macarthur Medal at the club’s Medal Night and surpassing 140 A-League appearances.

“Rose’s commitment to the club extends well beyond match day, with his involvement in the South West Sydney community, reflecting the pride he takes in representing the Bulls.’’ The Bulls said in a media statement.

“His leadership, dedication and connection to the club make him a natural choice to lead the squad into the new season.’’

Joining Rose in the leadership group as vice-captain is Callum Talbot, who became something of a fan favourite last season.

“It feels amazing and is a massive honour to be named captain of the Bulls,” Rose said.

“I love this club, the people involved and our fans, so to have the opportunity to lead this team is something I’ll never take for granted.

“I’ve learnt a lot along the way, both as a player and as a person and I want to use that experience to help the team in any way I can. I want to be a captain who puts the team first and gives everything for the club.

“The goal is to have a successful season and compete for trophies. We’ve got a great group of boys, and I just want to lead by example, work hard for the team and make sure we’re all pushing in the same direction.”
