Police Remembrance Day will become an annual event in Macarthur and be commemorated on September 23.

It will be held at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Leppington, where the inaugural Police Remembrance Day service was conducted by NSW Police chaplain Gary Raymond on September 23 this year.

The service was part of the official opening of the Police Memorial Wall.

The proceedings opened with a cleansing and smoking ceremony by Elders Uncle Dave and Uncle Chris.

Ray James, a former police officer and long servicing president of the sub-branch at Ingleburn RSL, was the MC for the day.

The dedication to the Memorial Wall was delivered by John Carroll which was followed by the official unveiling of the Wall by Roger Ford, president of the former police officers association of Macarthur.

Local federal members of parliament, local police area commands, and representatives from Campbelltown and Liverpool Councils, Ingleburn RSL, Southwest Multicultural Communities, NSW Council for Pacific Communities, Pacific Officers Law Enforcement Network, Guardian Funerals, Leppington, Kenneally’s Funerals, Good Samaritan Catholic College, Hinchinbrook, and St Gregory’s College attended the in augural event.

All of them laid wreaths to remember, honour and pay homage to those police officers who have served, and given their lives in protecting the community.

A piper, a bugler, and a police band took part in the service and unveiling of the police memorial wall.

Organisers thanked Forest Lawn Memorial Park for hosting the event, and the permanent wall.

“Their commitment and effort to deliver the police memorial wall was outstanding,’’ Mr Ford said.

“This wall will stand as a permanent legacy, and reminder of the courage and dedication of the men and women who have worn the uniform of the NSW Police.’’
